What SOC 2 is
An independent look at how data is protected
SOC 2 is an audit standard from the AICPA. An outside auditor examines a company's controls against the trust services criteria below. The report states which criteria are in scope.

Systems are protected against unauthorized access.
Availability
Systems are available for operation and use as committed.
Processing integrity
System processing is complete, valid, accurate and timely.
Confidentiality
Information designated as confidential is protected.
Privacy
Personal information is collected, used, retained and disposed of properly.
What Type 2 means
A Type 1 report looks at whether controls are designed properly at a single point in time. A Type 2 report goes further and tests whether those controls worked over a period of time. Ours is Type 2.
